Locked Up Abroad

In a reenactment scene, Greg Williams had offered to volunteer for a missionary as the Blind Prophet in the Southern Philippines. But on his way to join his colleagues, Williams' taxi was ambushed Abu Sayyaf Terrorists and kept him as a prisoner for ransom.

The third episode of the 14 part series National Geographic Locked Up Abroad follows the experience of a former hospital supervisor, Greg Williams. Through a series of misfortunes; an injury which results in unemployment and then divorce, Williams looks for a way to rebuild his life. He volunteers to do work on a Christian crusade as a missionary in the southern Philippines.
He is en route to join his colleagues when armed men ambush his taxi. He is kidnapped; covered with a hood, beaten and put on a boat. He then finds himself shackled to a tree while he is held for randsom by his Islamic captors, Abu Sayyaf. Rather than reveal where his colleagues are, Greg Williams devises a plan to escape.
As with all of the series episodes, Locked Up Abroad Kidnapped in the Philippines intersperses reenactment with interviews with the subject, who is Greg Williams this week.
