MANILA, Philippines - The National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) said yesterday that visitors can now enjoy free entertainment and other activities at the Rizal Park on weekends.

NPDC executive director Juliet Villegas said they have lined up different events, which started last Thursday and will last until the New Year.

"It would be a night of fun for those who will attend the various events which are scheduled every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the months of November and December," Villegas said.

She said the free concert will feature various acoustic bands as well as fire-dancing, ati-atihan, buganda and stilt-walking performances.

Apart from these events, Villegas said, tourists can also still enjoy the the regular Concert at the Park at the Open Air Auditorium in Rizal Park every Saturday at 5 p.m.

She said aside from the traditional attractions at the Rizal Park such as the Musical Dancing Fountain, Chinese Garden, Light and Sounds Complex, Children's Playground, Noli Me Tangere Garden, and the famous Dr. Jose Rizal monument, they also want visitors to experience free entertainment.

The Japanese Garden, which was renovated with the help of the Japanese embassy, would be opened soon to the public.

"It is also our mission to bring back the old grandeur and glory of Rizal Park," Villegas said. The number of people who visit the park continue to go up, she noted.
