hallo iedereen

ik ga dit jaar na 6 jaar eindelijk terug naar de filipijnen. na een weekje bij de familie ga ik verder reizen naar el nido en coron.
9 jaar geleden ben ik al eens naar el nido geweest en ik weet dat je daar moeilijk geld kon wissellen en dat er daar geen geldautomaten waren.
nu is mijn vraag .is er nu al veranderd dat er daar nu al geldautomaten zijn of is dat nog altijd zo?
van daaruit is reizen we verder naar coron.
kun je daar gemakkelijk geld wisselen.
wie kan mij dat zeggen

Dag Rik, ik ben in 2012 naar El Nido geweest en toen waren er nog geen ATM's.  In Coron weet ik eigenlijk niet aangezien we voldoende cash mee hadden.  El Nido en Coron zijn twee gelijkaardige plaatsen.  Als je El Nido leuk vond, dan zal Coron je ook zeker bevallen.  Ik denk dat de boottocht tss El Nido enn Coron wel zo'n 8 uur duurt.

Van mij is het van 2011 10 geleden dat ik nog in Coron was en er was dan al heel veel veel veranderd since ik daar in 2007 04 ook was.
Waren veel hotels bij gekomen. En één of twee banken. Volgens mij is er wel nu een ATM. In November ga ik terug.

In Coron as well as in the rest of Palawan, - except the provincial Capital Puerto Princesa. Paying by credit card is no problem in Manila, but in Coron and most other parts of the Philippines it is either impossible to use them or it will cost you between 6% and 20% surcharge.

At KokosNuss Resort you can exchange or pay by US$ Dollars, Euro and US$ travelers cheques, but the exchange rate is lower than in Manila. Credit card handling is always difficult in an area, where such things as telephones sometimes dont work and bank service is kept to a very minimum. There are four banks in Coron - the branch of the Landbank of the Philippines can only exchange US$ for you but doesnt offer any international ATM service or credit card encashments. The Allied Bank offers an ATM service for international credit cards. Bank of the Philippine Islands, BPI offers an ATM service for international credit cards as well and the same with the newly opened Metrobank

In Manila you get the best exchange rates. Some money changers also accept travelers cheques. If somebody approaches you on the street and offers you the best exchange rates, please do not trust him. A trusted money changer is for example the "GOOD RATE" or "EDZEN" in Mabini Street, Ermita. The safest way is still to change at your hotel in Manila, in a bank or at the international Airport.

El Nido
Here's a little tip, we learned the hard way. There are NO ATMs in El Nido, and many other of the more remote places in the Philippines.

Many people travel to Palawan because of the beautiful, utopian islands, and many if not all people who come here, don't know that there are NO bank machines around for hours.

Of course we had our moments of panic. 'How are we going to eat?' We managed to pre-book our accommodation for many nights online, so our credit card took care of that. There are a few restaurants in town that do accept cards, but they are the fancier, more fine dining establishments. Thankfully, we had a stash of Thai Baht that we never got around to exchanging, so we headed over to Palawan Pawnshop Money Exchange and got some Philippine Pesos for an exorbitant rate.

All the other travelers we met were having the same problem. Some of the smart ones thought ahead and brought their local money to exchange, others had to travel 4 hours back to Puerta Princesa to use an ATM in the city. There is also a Western Union money wiring service in town if worse comes to worse.

So BE AWARE: you ever travel to more remote areas, BE SURE TO BRING CASH! Stock up in Manila, or Puerto Princesa, or wherever you're coming from, because it's a very high possibility that you won't be able to access money in these small island towns.
