Actor Robin Padilla declared on Tuesday that he violated no law with an Instagram post showing a photo of a ballot he had ostensibly filled out.

"In response to the news regarding Mr. Padilla's alleged shaded ballot supposedly taken last 9 May 2016, Mr. Padilla desires to convey that he never violated any law or rule regarding the alleged photograph of his ballot, since it was neither an official ballot or taken inside a voting precint," the actor's counsel, Rudolph Philip Jurado, said in a statement released to News5 and other media.

Padilla, a known supporter of victorious presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte, posted a collage of two photos on his Instagram feed Monday morning, one of which was a close-up of a ballot with a shaded circle beside Duterte's name.

The photo right below it was a close-up of another portion of the ballot which showed a shaded circle beside Amin, Padilla's preferred party list of indigenous people in Mindanao.

The actor immediately deleted the post after netizens called him out. His wife, television host Mariel Rodriguez, defended him on her Instagram account, claiming that what he had posted was merely a sample ballot because he, in fact, did not vote.

"People should be more careful. They shouldn't assume. IT WAS A SAMPLE BALLOT!" she posted.

"We call this the Trillanes Syndrome. If anyone can prove that Robin Padilla went to a precinct, voted and took photos of his ballot I will help you convict him. I am that sure that Robin didn't do that... (W)hy? Because ROBIN PADILLA CAN NOT VOTE!!!!"

Rodriguez's Instagram followers assumed that she meant that her husband was not a registered voter, but she did not respond to their queries for confirmation.

Also on Monday, Padilla's nephew, teen idol Daniel, was criticized on social media, along with Daniel's on-screen romantic partner, Kathryn Bernardo, for posing for photos while holding their ballots inside their voting precincts.

Both were first-time voters who had endorsed Liberal Party's presidential candidate Mar Roxas.
