Eat-all-you-can at P99
Friends first, business partners second is the philosophy behind this new food venture

January 26, 2012, 2:00am

MANILA, Philippines – The recently opened Sir Boy's Food Republique in Quezon City could easily be the Philippine version of The Grove in Los Angeles. Owned by celebrity host and publicist Boy Abunda and seasoned entrepreneur Boy So, the roomy, well-lit restaurant is a favorite lunch hub of celebrities. It's the perfect place for celebrity sightings. But it's the P99.00 buffet that people can't get enough of.

"The concept of our buffet is fairly simple," said Boy So, also the owner of La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel and Café La Carmela in Makati. "From 10AM-10PM, we offer eat-all-you-can Filipino food (lutong bahay style) with drinks for P99.00 exclusive of VAT. That's it. We change the dishes daily. If they ever get tired of lutong bahay food, we have other choices in the menu."

Also found in Food Republique's menu are Dimsum Boy (pork siomai, chicken feet, kutchay dumpling, spare ribs, wanton noodles), Sir Boy's BBQ (pork and chicken BBQ, Bam-i), Sweet Boy (all cakes and pastries), and Sir Boy's Dampa (fresh seafood cooked either grilled or with sinigang-based soup).

Aside from the much-favored buffet, Sir Boy's Chicken BBQ is a must-try. Marinated in Boy So's own marinade recipe, the barbeque is tender, slightly sweet and refreshingly spicy when dipped in Sinamak vinegar. According to Boy So, this barbeque recipe was the reason why they decided to put up Food Republique.

Just like that, we ended up talking about opening our first business venture together. Ganon lang kasimple. Ganon kabilis," So said laughing.

The Boys have been friends for over eight years now and business partners for three. Yet, for them, the businesses are just the peripheral. The partnership is really the friendship.

"Some people would say, 'don't partner with your friends when it comes to business kasi magkakasiraan because of money. But what if you can actually challenge that myth? That a friendship that is pure, genuine and can defy sticky issues including money can actually be a foundation of a strong partnership? That is the kind of partnership that Boy and I have," Boy Abunda said.

Abunda added: "There's also a parallelism in our ideals and personalities. We're like soul mates for this kind of business."

Food Republique is one of the five restaurants under So's La Carmela Group. He's been in the F&B and hospitality business for more than a decade and he knows that quality is the most important element in the  food business. They source their vegetables from Baguio, meats from Tagaytay and a trusted supplier for their seafood. And apart from quality ingredients, affordability is the main thrust of the restaurant.

"I've always wanted to start a business like this, wala lang akong mahanap na magandang location noon. Boracay and Makati are both very upscale locations. Basta lahat masaya," So quipped.

Abunda agreed: "Whatever happens, we walk away from Food Republique happy. But we're not saying that we don't understand the business. We also prioritize practically, good food and impeccable service from disciplined employees. Hindi naman tayo nagtatapon ng pera. But in the process of making money, you shouldn't lose your humanity. And you should not lose your friendship."

Sir Boy's Food Republique is located at No. 29 Panay Ave., near corner Roces Avenue, Quezon City.

Bij cabayan in Robinson mall doen eigenlijk al jaren niets anders dan eat all you can buffet

:thumb: :jajaja: :jajaja:
