Electronic Cebu guidebook launched

By Garry B. Lao/JMO (The Freeman) Updated December 21, 2011

CEBU, Philippines - Touring Cebu has gone more high-tech.

Cebu-based tourism website MyCebu.ph and Smart Communications, Inc. launched an electronic guide book on Cebu.

Maria Jane Paredes, Smart's Senior Manager for Public Affairs for Visayas and Mindanao, said the electronic guidebook will make touring more convenient as tourists, both local and foreign, can now let go of paperback guides.

All they have to do is download the electronic guidebook into their iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Android phones and tablets and other tablets, e-readers and smartphones that have QR code scanner. QR codes are those scanable squares that pack information for inventory systems.

Unlike websites, ebooks can be read in various devices even without an Internet connection.

"It's for easy access," Paredes said, adding, that the electronic guidebook is also timely as it also serves as a guide for the upcoming Sinulog festivities next month.

The project was launched at the historic Barangay Parian. — (FREEMAN)
