Cebu Pafic launches first web check-in services in the country

Positive news Media

MANILA, Oct. 21 (PNA) -- Budget airline CEBU Pacific on Wednesday launched the country's first online check-in services for its all international flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA 3), in a bid to further beef up its services.

In a briefing, Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing and distribution told reporters that the airline's new service should speed up the check in process from the usual five minutes to seven minutes in a regular check-in counter to only one minute to 3 minutes, depending on whether they have check-in luggage.

Web check-in, which will start Thursday allows passengers to check-in for their flight via the internet, select seats and print boarding passes.

On the day of flight, passengers will have to fall in line at any of the two web check-in counters in Terminal 3. This is to verify the travel documents of passengers, an to check-in luggage.

Passenger should be in the boarding gate 30 minutes prior departure time.

"We are doing this to improve the customer experience more than anything... In terms cost savings its too early to tell because we are not rolling out it to all flights yet. Later, maybe we can see," Iyog said.

The Phase 2, Iyog said which will include domestic flights from Manila is scheduled to be launched in the last quarter of 2010.

"The service will not be available for guests needing assistance like groups of 10 or more, expectant mothers, unaccompanied minor and guests with infants, among others. Our main priority will always be our passengers' safety," Iyog said.

In the first six months, Cebu Pacific carried a million international passengers, higher than the 797,521 last year. Of the total, incoming passengers stood at 484,957 and outgoing, 523,437.

The airline operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country to 33 domestic and 16 international destinations, and will take delivery of three brand new A320 aircraft in the last quarter of the year.

From January to June, the Gokongwei-led airline's net income amounted to P3.09 billion, up by 55.6 percent from the P1.99 billion in the same period last year.

Revenues reached P14.91 billion, a 30.9-percent increase over last year's P11.39 billion brought about by an increase in number of passengers mainly as a result of additional flights in 2010. (PNA)

Air Philippines Flies to Legaspi and Tagbilaran
Reintroduces Ozamiz and Catarman

Manila Bulletin, October 22, 2010

Airphil Express started its Manila-Legazpi-Manila flights Thursday.

The country's fastest growing low-cost carrier adds premier South Luzon destination Legazpi City to its growing roster of routes with fares starting at P850 one way (exclusive of taxes).

"This is in response to the unmet demand for air travel in the Bicol region," according to Maria Java, Airphil Express' Vice President for Marketing and Media.

"Buses to and from South Luzon are packed to the hilt, take a whole day and cost as much as an airline seat. Airphil Express addresses this demand by assigning its most efficient aircraft to the route, the brand new Airbus A320 that allows us to serve Legazpi in world-class comfort, safety and efficiency for as low as your bus fare."

"With the delivery of the second of four Airbus A320's coming in this year, Airphil Express can now respond to growing low cost air transportation demand," she went on. "Today alone, we launch 4 new destinations simultaneously. Apart from daily flights from Manila to Legazpi, APX now flies out of Manila direct to Tagbilaran, Bohol. Out of our Cebu headquarters, we are launching direct flights to Ozamis. Lastly, we launch Cebu-Catarman as well."

Airphil Express has started daily flights to Bohol for as low as P1,008 one way, exclusive of taxes, cheaper than the boat fare heading for Manila from Tagbilaran. Vacationers, mostly European tourists, favor Bohol especially at end of the year when the cold hits the west. Most go to Panglao island.

"Bohol is the professional vacationers favorite mini-break destination," according to Maria Java, Airphil Express Vice President for Marketing and Media.

Airphil Express APX flies Manila to Tagbilaran daily at 9:40 a.m. and leaves Tagbilaran back for Manila at 11:25 a.m.

In its efforts to remain consumer-focused and community specific in its approach to its aggressive expansion, the burgeoning low cost player is zeroing in the traditional bus and ship going market, essentially growing its own loyal base of passengers.

"Because we have remained dedicated to the individual passenger and his flight experience with us, Airphil Express is seeing a consistent return of passengers to its rosters. We expect to see Legazpi's bus going public flying with us to and from Legazpi." Java added.

The choice of a larger aircraft servicing the Legazpi route will allow APX clients to load more baggage or cargo at considerably more reasonable rates. Airphil Express is still the only low cost carrier that gives 15 kilos free baggage. Beyond that, a minimal cost of P100 per kilo is charged.

APX flies to Legazpi, leaving Manila at 12:10 noon daily, arriving in Legazpi at 1:10 p.m. The return flight to Manila leaves Legazpi at 1:40 p.m. and arrives at Manila's NAIA Terminal 3 at 2:40 p.m.

Starting December 1, a second daily flight will ensue, flying out of Manila at 8:20 a.m. and leaving Legazpi at 9:50 a.m.

S. Korean budget airline to add flights to Hong Kong, Philippines

Manila Bulletin October 26, 2010

SEOUL (Xinhua) - Jeju Air, South Korea's leading budget carrier, will fly regional routes to Hong Kong and two cities of the Philippines as part of its overseas expansion, according to Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs on Monday.

The Jeju Island-based carrier is to challenge full-service airlines by offering lower fares to Southeast Asian cities.

Jeju Air was granted the right to operate three more international routes in July by the transport ministry.

The carrier plans to operate three flights per week from Incheon, South Korea's main gateway, to Hong Kong, starting Oct. 27. It will also provide flights on the routes between South Korea 's second-largest city Busan and the Philippine resort city Cebu, and between Incheon and Manila, starting late next month.

Jeju Air's move to add new overseas flights comes amid rising demand for low-cost air travel in South Korea.

Low-cost carriers carried 632,000 international passengers until September this year, taking up 3.18 percent of the country's international passenger traffic.

Philippine budget carrier launches first international flight (Singapore)

Manila Bulletin October 28, 2010,

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Air Philippines, the budget airline of Chinese-Filipino tycoon Lucio Tan, launched its first international route as part of it's plan to compete with dominant player Gokongwei-led Cebu Air, Inc.

With competition moving towards the more affordable-type of traveling, the sister company of flag carrier Philippine Airlines on Thursday said the first of its daily flights to Singapore from Manila took off on Oct. 27. The company also announced plans to fly to Singapore from Cebu in Central Philippines.

"Singapore's vibrant travel enthusiasts have responded to this new offering and the fast growing Philippine based low cost carrier is enjoying brisk sales in anticipation of the holidays," the company said in a statement.

"Travelers out of Singapore to the Philippines have been very receptive of our start of operations. Even before our maiden flight yesterday, Oct. 27th, our forward sales for December are now close to full for both Singapore-Cebu and Singapore-Manila," it added.

By Dec. 1st, the company plans to start its daily service to Singapore from Cebu and over the next three years, the company expects to spend 250 million U.S. dollars to grow its fleet to 18 A320 aircraft from the current 3.

The aircraft, which has a range of around four hours, will allow the airline to fly to almost any city in the Southeast Asian region or in North Asian countries like China, Japan and South Korea.
