PNoy 'disgusted' by pork barrel scam

MANILA - President Aquino's position to keep the pork barrel will not change, at least for now, despite repeated calls for its abolition.

Asked if his stand on the pork barrel will change, he said he's listening to various opinions. He, however, noted that the alleged misuse of the pork barrel happened during the Arroyo administration.

"Alam mo, dapat lang namang ma-disgusto tayo doon sa pag-aabuso 'nung PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund). Will it change? Ako'y nakikinig ng mga various opinions. Siyempre, gusto natin i-perpekto'yung system. Paalala lang natin, nangyari lahat ito noong dating administrasyon na iba ang patakaran sa atin," he told reporters.

Various groups are calling for the abolition of the pork barrel system following revelations on the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam involving lawmakers priority development assistance funds (PDAF).

Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles is accused of masterminding the scam, which involved the funneling of pork barrel funds to fake non-government organizations.

Last week, the Commission on Audit said 10 NGOs linked to Napoles received P2.157 billion in pork barrel between 2007 and 2009.

Aquino said he was disgusted after learning about the abuses in the pork barrel allocations. He reiterated that the Department of Justice will soon file cases against lawmakers implicated in the scam.

"Paano ko ba ide-describe 'yung disgust? Alam ninyo ang problema kasi talagang dapat magalit ka," he said.

"So talagang may mga tao, ano, nagsamantala. Talagang nilipat 'yung pondo sa bulsa. Wala nang ni na-ambon man lang doon sa mga taong nangangailangan. Sino ang hindi madi-disgusto doon? Siyempre, 'yung nabawasan sanang paghihirap ng mga kababayan natin, hindi na nga nabawasan, at nalustay na nga itong salaping ito. So ang importante sa atin, maparusahan iyong guilty at manigurado na may....Number one, may ehemplo ka; number two, 'yung hindi na gayahin o subukan man lang ulitin itong mga ganito," he added.
