Cebu Pacific flies from Iloilo to HK, Singapore

Manila Standard Today  July 17, 2012

Cebu Pacific, the country's largest budget carrier, is set to launch direct flights from Iloilo City to two international and domestic destinations, making the city its fifth hub in the Philippines.

CEB vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog said in a statement the budget airline would launch direct flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong, Singapore, Puerto Princesa and General Santos starting in November this year.

The airline currently operates direct services from Iloilo to Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.

Starting Nov. 8, Cebu Pacific will launch twice weekly flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong, and four weekly flights from Iloilo to General Santos. It will also add one Iloilo-Manila daily service on the same day to make it seven times daily.

On Nov. 9, CEB will launch thrice weekly flights from Iloilo to Singapore and thrice weekly flights from Iloilo to Puerto Princesa.

The airline will also launch three flights a week from Cagayan de Oro to Bacolod on the same day.

"We are proud to launch Iloilo as our fourth hub, since these new routes will greatly contribute to the tourism and trade in Western Visayas. Direct international flights also mean easy access for foreign tourists and overseas Filipino workers, since there will be no more need to pass through Manila or Cebu," said Iyog.

"These new routes are in time for the delivery of three more brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft in the second half of 2012. CEB will continue to stimulate travel to, from and within the Philippines with the most extensive route

PAL unveils new Boeing, eyes non-stop flights to Toronto, Paris, NY

Philippine Daily Inquirer , July 24th, 2012

MANILA, Philippines – Flag carrier Philippine Airlines plans to introduce soon non-stop flights to cosmopolitan cities Toronto, Paris and New York City.

This was announced by PAL president Ramon S. Ang Monday night as the flag carrier — now under the management control of San Miguel Corp. which is also led by Ang — toasted the arrival of its third Boeing 777-300ER, deemed as the aircraft of choice for long-haul flights.

"In the months ahead, three more Boeing 777 aircraft will be delivered to PAL. For us, it means a modern fleet that we can be proud of. And for our loyal passengers, this means more new exciting destinations. In the near future, PAL will fly non-stop to Toronto, Paris and New York City," Ang said.

During the cocktail party, Ang added that the Toronto could be added in three months while flights to Paris could be started by February 2014.

He said the strategy for Philippine Airlines was simple: modernization of its fleet, the expansion of its network, and improvements in passenger service.

"Philippine Airlines must become known for its warm, sincere and hospitable service. Each of us must be passionate about exceeding the expectations of our passengers in creative and helpful ways," Ang said.

Ang said PAL was operating in a very competitive environment —but one with a wealth of opportunity.

"The Asia-Pacific is the fastest growing market for air travel and we need to improve our competitiveness as an airline," he said.

"Our number one priority is to turnaround PAL by tapping into the strengths of San Miguel Corp. and the Lucio Tan group of Companies. As PAL President, I am committed to transforming our airline's business operations," he said.

Likewise unveiled during Monday night's cocktails were:

* New inflight dishes prepared by five top-rated guest chefs;

* Book & buy ticketing kiosks to be installed at selected Petron gas stations; and,

* Apple inflight iPads for entertainment onboard trans-Pacific flights.

The first three Boeing 777-300ERs were delivered in November 2009, January 2012 and June 2012, respectively. The 370-seater B777s currently fly to Vancouver, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and Japan (via Cebu).

Each B777 has two of the largest and most powerful commercial jet engines — the GE90-115BL which has cleaner emissions to protect the environment as well as for a quieter cabin. The aircraft is believed to offer exceptional fuel economy, efficiency, reliability and high levels of cabin comfort for its passengers, combined with unmatched levels of payload (28 tons of cargo) and range (7,825 nautical miles).

The aircraft's body uses composites and advanced alloys that save up to 2,600 kilos of structural weight. It operates on fly-by-wire technology.

All components are operated electronically, doing away with mechanical operation. Integration of the airplane's various systems has resulted to easier maintenance and faster turn-around for availability for flights.

Het is nog heel conditioneel: Toronto could be added in three months while flights to Paris could be started by February 2014

Maar hou toch maar het volgende grapje in het achterhoofd: "Cebu Pacific: you start in Cebu, and end up in the Pacific"  :lachen:
Ik blijf trouw aan mijn roots en principes, en pas me aan waar nodig of wenselijk, waar ik het vanuit mijn hart kan doen, en ik verwacht van anderen hetzelfde.

SEAir starts flights to Cebu

Philippine Daily Inquirer  Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

MANILA, Philippines–Filipino-owned Southeast Asian Airlines, or SEAir, began flying out tourists to Cebu on Tuesday, to take advantage of the growing tourism activities in Central Visayas.

SEAir flight DG-7006 flew to Cebu City around 1 p.m. on Tuesday from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 4 (formerly the Manila Domestic Airport). The flight utilized a brand-new 144-seater Airbus 319.

SEAir officials, led by its president Avelino Zapanta and chief operations officer Patrick Tan, together with Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines director general William Hotchkiss III, attended the inaugural rites at the Terminal 4 ramp.

"Cebu is one of the most important destinations in the country and its central location makes it a major gateway to the islands in the Visayas region. Our presence here means an increase in trade and tourism in the region as well as job generation," Tan said.

Tan said the airline has been working to attract not only travelers to metropolitan Cebu but also to the various resort islands, dive sites and marine sanctuaries in the province such as Malapascua and the Bantayan Islands, Camotes, Olango and Oslob.

With the addition of three daily flights to Cebu, about 300,000 arrivals are expected every year, translating to the creation of jobs directly and indirectly, according to Tan

SEAir will be flying in and out of Cebu three times daily. A fourth daily flight is awaiting approval from the Civil Aeronautics Board.

To attract passengers, the airline opened for online sale on Tuesday a P1 "one-way, all-in" special rate promo for travel to Cebu from Sept. 1 to 30 this year.

Hotchkiss assured passengers of SEAir and other airlines that the government has been doing all it could to curb congestion and delays at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Hotchkiss, who was appointed to head CAAP a month ago, said the agency's "consolidated arrival slotting system" has been underway.

"We want our flights safe, orderly and expeditious. So far the feedback is nice. We have the same number of flights and yet our arrivals are now orderly and timed so that they don't happen all at once," the retired air force general told reporters.

The CAAP has been hard-pressed to cope with the increasing air traffic at NAIA brought about by more foreign tourist arrivals and domestic travelers whom SEAir and other local airlines have been trying to attract with budget fare promos.

The Cebu flight was just the start of SEAir's ongoing expansion. This August, the airline's will also send its flights to Tacloban, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Davao and Bacolod. Tan said the airline has been eyeing both Manila and Cebu to become its regional hubs.

SEAir's current main hub is Clark International Airport; it offers flights to Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kota Kinabalu and Kalibo. The airline plans to launch more flights soon to Naga, Legazpi, Bohol, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Tawi-tawi as wel as international flights to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia.

SEAir, which partnered with the Singapore-based Tiger Airways in 2010, recently converted its operations from that of a leisure airline to a low-cost budget airline.
