World's 10 Most Beautiful Airport Terminals

Frommers.com
By Sascha Segan

Airport terminals aren't generally viewed as architectural wonders. The concrete boxes of the 1960s and '70s generally gave way to glass boxes in the '90s and '00s, with the best terminals making a vague stab at incorporating ideas of "light" and "air" -- or at least offering decent food that isn't a mile's walk from the gates.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, and one person's perfect terminal is another's endless walkway of sorrows. Luckily, these ten airport terminals combine personality, functionality, and uniqueness to offer a great travel experience that starts the moment you get off the plane.

De beste trucjes van stewardessen

Telegraaf 13 sept 2012

..............................

AirAsia To Become The First Operator Of Airbus A320 'Sharklets'

Manila Bulletin September 16, 2012,

MANILA, Philippines – Airbus and the world's largest A320 customer AirAsia announced that the airline will become the first operator of the A320 with 'Sharklets' when they take delivery of the first A320 equipped with these fuel-saving wing-tip devices at the end of this year. The aircraft exhibited on static and flying display at the ILA Berlin Air Show is the flight test aircraft for CFM engines and will also be delivered to AirAsia in 2013.

"The A320 has played a key role in our success, enabling us to offer our passengers the lowest fares possible and completely redefine short haul travel in Asia." said Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group CEO. "Now we are looking forward to become the first airline in the world to start operating this most fuel-efficient aircraft."

"AirAsia is one of the fastest growing, most innovative and well-respected brands in the airline industry" said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. "It is a great endorsement that they have chosen our latest, fuel-saving aircraft of our successful A320 Family".

Sharklets will be fitted on previously ordered, newly built A320s for AirAsia, scheduled for delivery from the end of 2012. They will result in close to 4 percent fuel savings on longer sectors, corresponding to an annual CO2 reduction of around 1,000 tonnes per aircraft.

Altogether, AirAsia, the largest Low Cost Airline in Asia-Pacific has ordered a total of 375 single aisle aircraft, comprising 200 A320neo and 175 A320ceo, of which 103 have been delivered to date.

* Advise to air passengers: Just report lost luggage

BusinessMirror Posted at 09/17/2012

MANILA, Philippines - Many Filipinos have seen from television or Internet reports the brawl at the airport when actress Claudine Barretto lost her luggage aboard one of the low-cost carriers (LCC) during a trip from Boracay to Manila last summer.

To avoid such headline-grabbing scene, airline companies advise passengers who lost their luggage not to focus their anger at the baggage agent.

"Although the person at the counter represents an airline, he or she didn't personally cause the loss of your bag," Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing and sales, said.

She said passengers should report the matter to the airlines concerned, and within a few hours, the baggage would find its way to the owner's home.

Airline personnel instruct passengers to fill-up a lost-luggage form, and to call up a telephone number of a private company, which locates lost pieces of baggage.

Aviation Concept Logistics (ACL) is one such company. Besides tracing lost luggage, ACL also provides "centralized solutions" to air carriers that require flight dispatch, aircraft servicing, staffing, crewing, flight planning, weight and balance, hotels bookings, providing cabin staff, to name a few.

Rabbi Vincent Ang, operations manager, said that ACL uses software to trace lost luggage. Once a baggage is located, it is reported back to the air carrier and sent to the owner.

Mishandled baggage cost the airline industry worldwide an estimated $2.94 billion in 2011, according to the International Air Transport Association.

Although the airline industry raked in profit estimated at $16 billion, the $2.94 billion eats up part of that profit.

However, passengers should be assured that 99.1 percent of checked-in baggage was delivered on time to the passenger in 2011, the highest rate of successful delivery since the report was first produced and represents saving of $650 million to the air transport industry, according to Societe International de Telecommunications Aeronautiques, the IT provider for the air transport industry.

Ze is nochtans rijk genoeg om niet met low cost te moeten vliegen ....

AirAsia in talks to buy Zest Airways
To gain slots at Manila Airport

Philippine Daily Inquirer September 20, 2012

Malaysia's AirAsia group is making a move to acquire local budget airline Zest Airways in a bid to expand the regional giant's foothold in the fast-growing Philippine market.

Highly placed Inquirer sources said that while nothing has been signed as of yet, negotiations were ongoing between AirAsia and the group of former ambassador and juice-drink magnate Alfred Yao.

In an interview on Wednesday, Yao confirmed that the company was in talks with several groups on the possible entry of new investors to help the airline compete in the country's crowded budget carrier sector.
"We have been approached, but nothing is final yet. There are offers," he told the Inquirer. Yao declined to confirm talks with the AirAsia group, owned by former music industry executive and Malaysian billionaire Tony Fernandes.

He said Zest Airways would make an appropriate announcement once a deal has been signed.
AirAsia already has a presence in the Philippines through local unit AirAsia Inc., a consortium between Fernandes, who owns 40 percent, and Antonio "Tonyboy" Cojuangco Jr., Michael Romero and Marianne Hontiveros, who own 20 percent each.

Constitutional restrictions bar foreigners from owning more than 40 percent of transportation companies. The same limitation applies to other utility firms, which are businesses considered as "imbued" with public interest.
AirAsia in the Philippines operates flights between the Clark Freeport in Pampanga and domestic routes like Davao, Puerto Princesa and Kalibo. The company also has international flights to Hong Kong, Macau and Kuala Lumpur.

AirAsia Malaysia, meanwhile, operates flights between Kuala Lumpur and the Clark International Airport in Pampanga. AirAsia Malaysia also has flights between the former military base and Kota Kinabalu.

Asked if flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) was approached for a possible investment in Zest Airways, president Ramon S. Ang said, "Late tayo" (we were late).

Local AirAsia officials could not be reached for comment.

Data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) released last week showed the growth in the country's international airline sector slowing to 7.34 percent in the first half, slower than the 11 percent booked last year.

Domestic demand, however, remained robust, with passenger traffic within the country growing 13.33 percent in the same six-month peri
