An Officer and a Gentleman

Weet iemand welk deel dan buiten de VS was? De hele film ging toch over de pre-selectie van Naval Aviators in de VS.

Negros residents to star in Fil-Am indie film 'Amigo'

GMANews.tv 02/14/2011 | 05:15 PM

The residents of Negros Occidental will be part of a Filipino-American movie co-production about the Philippine-American War, both as cast members and production staff.

The movie "Amigo" will premiere at the Robinsons Cinema in Bacolod City at 7:00 p.m. on February 21.

Amigo will also be shown in three advance screenings at the University of St. La Salle Auditorium 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb. 21

The proceeds going to Bahay Pagasa, a formation center for juvenile delinquents.

"Amigo" is a film set in 1900 to 1901, when the US colonial army was pursuing Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in the hinterlands of Luzon.

"We are proud of our own Bacoleños who are part of the cast and production staff," actor Joel Torre said in an interview on the news site Visayan Daily Star.

Directing the film is John Sayles, one of the godfathers of American Independent Cinema who has two Oscar Award nominations for his films "Lonestar" and "Passion Fish," Torre said.

Torre plays the role of Rafael the Kapitan del Baryo.

Heading the American cast are Chris Cooper, an Oscar Best Supporting Actor awardee, Garret Dillahunt and DJ Qualls.

On the Philippine side, the cast includes Bembol Roco, Ronnie Lazaro, Rio Locsin, Pen Medina, Spanky Manikan, Irma Adlawan, Bodjie Pascua, Joe Gruta, and Torre.

Aside from Lazaro and Torre, other Bacolod residents in the cast and production staff are US-based film editor Mario Ontal, assistant director Kokoy Jimenez, art director Dwight Gaston, and production designers Erin and Fergus Martir.

Sayles, Ontal, Torre and Maggie Renzi are the co-producers of Amigo.

Torre said all the Bacolod artists in "Amigo" are members of The Maskara Theatre Ensemble, a theatre group based in La Salle Bacolod.

"Watch the film and you will see the parallelisms with Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan," Torre said.
