Business PAL, Zest increasing surcharges

The Civil Aeronautics Board granted provisional approval to three local airlines to impose higher fuel surcharge for domestic and international operations amid higher jet fuel prices.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines, AirPhil Express and Zest Airways obtained a three-month provisional approval to impose higher fuel surcharge.

PAL will increase its fuel surcharge within Luzon from P296 to P340; Luzon to Visayas from P352 to P404; and Luzon to Mindanao from P463 to P531.

For international destinations, the flag carrier will increase fuel surcharge from $200 to $300 for the US route, except Honolulu; Manila to Honolulu, from $155 to $250; Manila to Canada from $200 to $300; Manila to Thailand from $75 to $80; Vietnam from $75 to $80; and Singapore from $75 to $80.

Malaysia Airlines creëert kindvrije zone in economy

Nadat Malaysia Airlines sinds vorig jaar geen baby's meer dulde in First Class, heeft de vliegtuigmaatschappij nu ook besloten om een kindvrije zone in te richten in de economy class van de nieuwe Airbus A380. Du jamais vu in de luchtvaartsector. Voor ouders die met kinderen reizen, wordt de stoelkeuze opnieuw een stukje beperkter.

Goed bericht voor reizigers die zich aan de ouders ergeren die geen flikker doen om hun jengelende en krijsende vervelende kinderen rustig te houden,maar zal me nu wel op glad ijs begeven voor vele.

Je mag je dan misschien op glad ijs begeven. maar ik heb ooit tijdens een vlucht van Denpassar naar Perth, en dat duurde als ik me nog goed kan herinneren haast 8 uur, een familie met 2 kinderen in de rij achter me mee gemaakt. Dat ple.r.s jong zag kans om ongeveer elke minuut aan mijn rugleuning te gaan hangen. Verzoeken aan de beide ouders (Indonesiers) en het cabine personeel (ook Indonesisch) ik vloog nl. met Garuda haalde geen ene mallemoer uit. Dus kan het besluit van MY enkel toejuichen. Bij aankomst in Perth was ik ongeveer in staat om..........., vul zelf maar in.

Ik kan het besluit van Malaysia airlines enkel maar toejuichen. Voor een vlucht van 2 uurtjes een paar jankende kinderen, geen probleem. Maar voor een vlucht van 11 of 12 uur is dat niet te doen. De ouders kunnen er ook wel niets aan doen in de meeste gevallen als een baby last heeft van de druk in de oren.

Goed initiatief     en ik hoop dat er meerdere luchtvaartmaatschappijen volgen. Dat moet toch makkelijk te regelen zijn dacht ik.

Filipinos voted 3rd least rude to travelers

MANILA, Philippines - We may be among the poorest but certainly not the rudest.

A recent poll by a travel search site voted Filipinos as the 3rd least rude to travelers.

Online voters, most of them Europeans, who visit the Skyscanner site to buy tickets or choose their holiday destination, rated the Philippines as among the countries with the least rude locals, next to Brazil and the Caribbean.



The site users said France still topped the list of countries where the locals never smile and people are particularly unfriendly.

Hot on the heels of the of the French, who got 19% of the votes, are the Russians who moved up to 2nd top spot with 17%, allowing the Brits to slide down to the 3rd spot.

The site cited cultural differences and language barriers that may be perceived as "rudeness" rather than anything intentional.

"The French have long been known for their abrupt and curt nature, especially when dealing with foreign tourists, which has often been taken as rudeness by visitors," it explained.

As for the Russians being hot on the heels of the French, it explained that "The Russian economic boom and relaxation of visa regulations has led to a boost in Russians taking holidays in Mediterranean resorts popular with British holidaymakers."

"Russians can be more direct when talking, which may be misconstrued as being rude. However this is more a difference in culture than genuine rudeness. The Russian language is not as polite as English, so when Russians translate directly from Russian to English, it can sound rude to an English speaker even if they don't mean it to," Tatiana Danilova, Russian market manager for Skyscanner commented.

"Russians tend to consider British people extremely polite due to their courteous way of speaking," she added.

Rounding out the top 5 rudest countries were Germany and "Other" countries. The US placed 7th, behind China.


The survey received over 1,200 responses, 65% from the UK and Ireland, plus elsewhere in Europe, North America and Australia.
