DSWD: Secure clearance for minors traveling abroad

Manila Times Sunday, April 01, 2012

TO protect minors from human trafficking, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reminds parents and guardians to obtain travel clearance for minors who will be traveling abroad without them.

Pursuant to the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and the Philippine Passport Act of 1996, the DSWD requires parents and legal guardians to secure a travel clearance for minors from its regional offices nationwide.

The requirements are duly accomplished application form, photocopy of the minor's birth certificate issued by the National Statistics Office, written consent of parents or of the legal guardian allowing the minor to travel alone or with a specific companion, two colored passport size picture of the minor, and photocopy of the passport of the traveling companion.

Parents and legal guardians must submit the requirements to the nearest DSWD regional office.
