Top 20 meest punctuele airlines

Sommige vliegtuigmaatschappijen hebben er een handje van weg om de vertragingen op te stapelen. Indien je graag op tijd ter bestemming wil geraken, opteer je wellicht best voor één van deze twintig airlines. Uit een onderzoek van FlightStats is immers gebleken dat ze de meest stipte maatschappijen zijn. De Japanse airlines spannen duidelijk de kroon en behalen goud en zilver in deze ranking. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) en KLM doen het ook opvallend goed.

Voor de doorlichting werden enkel airlines in ogenschouw genomen die minstens 30.000 vluchten per jaar uitvoeren vanaf drie continenten. Kleine maatschappijen zijn dus buiten beschouwing gelaten.

Ook geld bij vertraagde vlucht na overstap


LUXEMBURG -

Vliegtuigpassagiers hebben ook recht op compensatie als zij na een overstap te laat op hun bestemming arriveren. Het doet er niet toe dat de eerste vlucht wel op tijd was.

Dat maakte het Europees Hof van Justitie in Luxemburg dinsdag duidelijk. De vliegtuigmaatschappijen zijn een schadevergoeding verschuldigd als passagiers met een vertraging van 3 uur of meer op hun eindbestemming arriveren.............

Laguindingan Airport to Open April 2013

President Benigno S. Aquino III visited Tuesday the ongoing construction of the â,±7.9 billion Laguindingan Airport that has projected passenger capacity of 1.6 million.

DOTC Secretary Joseph Abaya told the President in a briefing that the airport project will be operational on April 30 this year and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is restructuring flight arrival times without the Instrument Landing System (ILS) which are yet to be installed.

The A330-capable Laguindingan Airport boast two boarding bridges and five aircraft parking bays.

President Aquino said that he is already looking into expansion of the airport before its planned opening since the airport capacity has already been breached based on the figures recorded by Lumbia airport.

Land acquisition project started in 1988 during the leadership of the first Aquino administration when the Ayala's agreed to sell their land for the airport but construction hasn't materialized until 20 years later when it was conceptualized.

Vanaf 2014 weer vloeistoffen mee aan boord.

Vliegtuigpassagiers in de Europese Unie mogen vanaf 2014 weer grotere hoeveelheden van bepaalde vloeistoffen mee aan boord nemen. Het huidige verbod, dat een terreuraanslag moet voorkomen, zou tegen 2016 helemaal verdwenen moeten zijn. Maar dat hangt af van de ervaringen met de versoepeling van de regels.


Dat meldden Europarlementariërs vrijdag. Zij kwamen het besluit overeen met de Europese Commissie in Brussel.

Vanaf 31 januari 2014 kunnen medicijnen, dieetproducten en babyvoeding gewoon weer mee in de handbagage. Daarnaast mogen dranken, gels en parfums die na de veiligheidscontrole op een luchthaven zijn gekocht, zonder belemmering mee bij een overstap. Speciale scanners gaan voortaan vloeibare explosieven in handbagage opsporen.

Het was eigenlijk de bedoeling de regels in april 2011 te versoepelen. Maar toen bleken de scanapparaten nog niet snel en betrouwbaar genoeg.

No more zero visibility danger at NAIA -- CAAP

THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines announced yesterday the "zero visibility" during bad weather will pose no more danger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

This after a notice-to-airmen was formally issued to inform all airline companies, both local and international, that the Instrument Landing System was re-validated in compliance with the aviation safety standard.

CAAP deputy director general Capt. John C. Andrews said the validity of the system has gone through its normal process. and clarified the NAIA-ILS is working and the required periodic re-validation has been completed.                                      Willy A. Balasa

Finally, PH passes aviation safety audit

MANILA, Philippines - After 5 years, the Philippines passed the global safety audit of a United Nations aviation body, marking the first step in the process toward the lifting of restrictions against Philippine carriers.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has lifted the "significant safety concerns," or audit findings, on the ability of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to meet global aviation standards, CAAP said in a statement on Monday, March 4.

The audit results of ICAO -- a United Nations agency that oversees international civil aviation -- are the basis of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in ruling to keep or lift the Category 2 status it imposed on its counterpart in the Philippines, the CAAP.

A favorable ICAO audit and a positive FAA review have long been awaited especially by local airlines and tourism officials that would like to bring more foreign visitors from the huge markets of the US and EU.

The European Union may also follow the FAA's move after it blacklisted the Philippines in 2010.

Official notice

The head office of ICAO in Montreal, Canada relayed to CAAP the official audit results and recommendation of the team based on their February visit, said CAAP director general William K. Hotchkiss III.

The official ICAO advice noted that the Philippines has made "corrective actions" that have "successfully addressed and resolved the 'significant safety concerns' identified by the ICAO," CAAP said.

CAAP cited Mohamed Elamiri, ICAO Deputy Director for safety management and monitoring, for "the active commitment by the Philippines towards resolving the deficiencies identified through the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme."

Following the ICAO audit team's visit in February, Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya had expressed optimism that the Philippines has passed the aviation safety audit and that a recommendation to lift all safety issues is at hand.

Early in 2012, the government admitted that the country's aviation safey status is dragging the potential growth of tourism behind.

The ICAO had raised concerns over the safety and oversight structure and the revalidation of airline carriers, among others, by Air Transportation Office (ATO), the CAAP predecessor.

The Philippine government has since spun off the regulatory function of the aviation body into CAAP and has set aside budget for the training of aviation inspectors and information technology assets.

Local players Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific have been keen on the lifting of these bans, and have separately made orders for new planes they can deploy to profitable routes in the west. - Rappler.com
