KLM's Delft Blue aircraft lands at NAIA

(The Philippine Star) Updated July 10, 2011

The fully decorated Delft Blue aircraft of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with 319 passengers from Amsterdam arrives at the NAIA yesterday. RUDY SANTOS

MANILA, Philippines - KLM's Delft Blue aircraft touched down yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the plane's exterior a virtual mosaic of blue.

The Boeing 777-200, measuring 64 by 18 meters, has a coat decorated with some 4,000 stickers, each in the form of a Delft Blue tile, a symbol of Dutch culture.

KLM flight 803 arrived at NAIA around 9:26 a.m. yesterday with 319 passengers direct from Amsterdam.

As many as 120,000 tiles were created in 154 countries, including the Philippines. Some 77,000 were submitted for consideration.

The initiative began with the worldwide Tile and Inspire campaign that ran between April and May. Everyone was invited to participate online, mainly via Facebook, to create a Delft Blue tile with an inspiring message in a bid to secure a place on a KLM aircraft.

Around 4,000 winners were selected at random from the most inspiring entries. These tiles can now be seen on the Boeing 777-200 which made its first flight on June 15.

In a statement at around the time of the blue plane's maiden flight, KLM said: "With this Delft Blue aircraft, KLM is establishing a link between its history and the social media. The successful online Tile and Inspire campaign has enabled us to actively involve our passengers in relation to an age-old Dutch product: Delft Blue."

Delft Blue is of course inextricably linked to both Dutch culture and KLM. Since the 1950s, KLM has been presenting miniature Delftware houses to its world business class passengers traveling on intercontinental flights.

"We are extremely proud that one of our aircraft now boasts a complete Delft Blue exterior," Joane Doromal, station manager, and Ma. Lourdes San Juan said.

"Inspiring messages were considered in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish. In the end, an entire series of tiles in these languages were selected for the aircraft. These inspiring messages are now flying to multiple destinations around the world," the airline statement said.

Cebu Pacific leases two new Airbus A320

Positivenewsmedia, 18 July 2011

MANILA, July 18 (PNA) - Cebu Air Inc. on Friday said it has signed a six-year operating lease-agreements with Dublin-based aviation company for more brand new Airbus aircraft to further expand its fleet.

In a statement, the Gokongwei-led airline company said it signed six-year operating lease agreements with RBS Aviation Capital for 2 brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft to be delivered in March 2012.

Cebu Pacific said the lease of two Airbus A320 was on top of the airline's 27 Airbus A320 aircraft purchase orders to be delivered from September 2011 until 2016, and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft orders to be delivered from 2017 to 2021.

The total investment for these new aircraft amounted to US$ 3.8 billion.

The airline recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for the purchase of the 30 A321neo aircraft, the largest A321neo aircraft order in the world.

The A321neos will be a first of its type to operate in the Philippines, being a larger and longer-haul version of the familiar Airbus A320.

"These two leased A320 aircraft will further increase our fleet size, allowing us to offer lower fares and even more routes, destinations and flights to our guests. It will also enable us to continue expanding aggressively in the Asia-Pacific region, especially as we await delivery of more brand-new CEB aircraft," Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific's president and chief executive said.

The airline currently operates 10 Airbus A319, 15 Airbus A320 and eight ATR-72 500 aircraft. Of the 15 A320s, nine are under operating lease agreements.

"This is our first transaction in the Philippines, and our first lease agreement with Cebu Air. We look forward to new opportunities in the region and developing a key relationship with one of the country's leading domestic carriers," Peter Barrett, RBS Aviation Capital's chief executive said.

RBS Aviation Capital ranks among the world's top five operating lessors by fleet value.

Founded in 2001, it has 100 airline customers and 36 investor customers in 38 countries.

Cebu Pacific flies to the most extensive network within and from the Philippines, with 34 domestic and 16 international destinations including Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Beijing, Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Since 1996, Cebu Pacific had flown 50 million passengers. It broke local aviation records for passengers carried in a month in April and May of 2011, carrying more than one million passengers per month. This year, CEB will carry more than 12 million passengers. (PNA)
