Govt building budget air terminal in Clark

Manila Standard Today 8 Aug 2011
by Jeremiah F. de Guzman

THE government plans to put up an P8-billion terminal for budget carriers in Clark, Pampanga, to accommodate the "spillover" traffic from the Manila International Airports' congested terminals, an official said over the weekend.

Clark International Airport Corp. president Victor Luciano said the state-run firm was now preparing another public-private partnership project to build another terminal at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, which would be up for bidding next year.

"We will draft the terms of reference to be approved by the national government," Luciano said.

He said the terminal, to be patterned after the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, would occupy 40 hectares and have a maximum annual capacity of up to 10 million passengers.

"In two years that will be finished," Luciano said.

He said a city air terminal in Northern Metro Manila was also being planned to complement the terminal for budget carriers. It would allow passengers to save on extra traveling costs because shuttle buses would take them to the airport.

Luciano said his agency had allotted P120 million to build the new terminal while a private partner would put up a counterpart fund. The winning bidder is to build and manage the terminal and run the shuttle buses.

Meanwhile, Luciano said Metro Pacific Investments Corp.'s plan to put up a terminal in Clark had not yet been proposed to his agency. Only San Miguel Corp. had formally submitted a proposal to build one.

"[San Miguel] has submitted a proposal for Terminal 2, and we are looking at that now. That's independent of the planned budget terminal," Luciano said.

The airport in Clark is 85 kilometers away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It is the main airport serving the Clark Special Economic Zone. The airport handled 607,704 international passengers and 46,525 domestic passengers last year.

Amerikanen testen supervliegtuig

SEAIR opens flights to Bangkok'

Dateline.ph Posted on 13 Aug 2011

Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAIR), the Philippines' premier leisure airline, announced today it will fly to Bangkok three times weekly from Clark starting Oct. 31, utilizing its 144-seater Airbus 319 aircraft.

Clark-Bangkok seats are on sale now at www.FlySeair.com and www.tigerairways.com at a special introductory fare of as low as Php 2400 one-way for travel on October 31, 2011 and onwards.

SEAIR flies from Clark to Bangkok v.v. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Clark to Bangkok flights are at 12:35 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. and Bangkok to Clark flights are at 4:40 p.m. to 7:55 p.m.

Bangkok or Krung Threp ("city of angels") is the capital of Thailand. It is known as the "Venice of the East" for the canals and passages and water-taxis cruising on the Chao Phraya River, the city's main geographical feature. Bangkok's ideal location as a trading center gave rise to a multitude of shopping centers, considered some of Asia's largest, including the largest outdoor market of Asia, Chatuchak.

For a taste of the exotic, tourists can watch venomous snakes being milked at the Red Cross Snake Farm or check out Thailand's Go-Go culture at the Patpong Night Market, also considered a "must-visit" shopping destination. Tourists are also drawn to the food culture from the popular Phad Thai (stir-fried rice noodles) and curries to the rarer fare like fried bamboo worms, spiders and scorpions. Bangkok is also a jump-off point to other Thai hot spots including Chiang Mai and Phuket.

"The Clark-Bangkok route is SEAIR's fourth international destination under the Tiger Airways partnership," said SEAIR president Avelino Zapanta. "The new route offers similar ultra low fares as our Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau flights and serves as an important link between Philippines and Thailand for tourists, business travellers, and Filipinos working abroad."

The SEAIR-Tiger Airways Partner Airline Program allows SEAIR to distribute its seats through Tiger Airways' established internet booking system, www.tigerairways.com. SEAIR is the first Tiger Airways Partner Airline in the Asia Pacific region.

SEAIR is the Philippines' second oldest airline, and is the first airline based in Clark. It has the reputation of having pioneered commercial flights to the country's fastest growing tourist destinations including Boracay, Batanes and northern Palawan. Now on its 16th year of operation, SEAIR is expanding its reach regionally with its current jet services to Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau.

For more information, please visit www.FlySeair.com or call SEAIR at +632 8490100. Like the SEAIR Facebook Fan Page at www.facebook.com/flyseair for updates on promos and new routes.

Zest Airways purchases aircraft, eyes new routes

Manila Standsard Today 15 Aug 2011

Zest Airways Inc. is expanding its fleet and network as it bids to become the country's second-largest low-cost carrier, a top official said over the weekend.

Zest Air president and chief executive Alfredo Yao told Manila Standard in a phone interview the carrier was aggressively acquiring aircraft and applying for new routes despite tight competition and rising fuel prices.

"Competition is always there. Everybody is a threat," he said.

He said Zest Air purchased an Airbus 320 in July and was expecting delivery of two more Airbus units this month and September.

"So, we have four new Airbuses this year. Now, we have nine," Yao said. Two of the four new aircraft are leased while the other two are owned.

He said Zest Air was adding Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Incheon flights originating from Manila to its regional routes.

Zest Air applied with the Civil Aeronautics Board for seat entitlements to Kuala Lumpur, which include 900 seats weekly during winter and 1,260 seats weekly during summer.

Southeast Asian Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirPhil Express have also applied for flights to Malaysia. AirAsia Philippines, a unit of Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia, is also set to mount flights to the Southeast Asian country in October.

Yao has said Zest Air is looking at handling over 2.5 million passengers this year from around 1.5 million in 2010.

""We are also expecting a boost in revenues to P7 billion to P8 billion this year as a result of our continued expansion locally and regionally," he earlier said.

CAB executive director said local budget carriers were experiencing increased sales since Filipino travelers prefer savings than convenience.

He said the increasing "acceptability" of low-cost carrier model in the Philippine market had been the main reason for continued expansion among local budget airlines.

"The fares are very competitive. Budget carriers are now creating a niche market of their own and some are encroaching on the traditional market of legacy carriers," Arcilla said.
