Bomb joke forces plane to return to Manila airport

MANILA (2nd Update, 3:59 p.m.) -- An Air Philippines Airbus 320 bound for Puerto Princesa City has returned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 after a group of seven passengers joked about a bomb on board the plane.

Bing Lina, Naia-3 manager, told ANC that the plane scheduled to depart at 12:20 p.m. Thursday was taxiing on the runway when a member of the group started a bomb joke. After being advised by cabin crew, the plane's pilot decided to turn the aircraft around.

Aviation officials have taken custody of the seven passengers for investigation.

All 176 passengers were ordered to deplane as security officials conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft.

The flight was delayed but Lina assured that it will depart from Naia-3 as soon as it gets clearance from airport authorities.

Lina, meanwhile, reminded passengers not to make bomb jokes onboard any passenger plane as this will be taken seriously by airport security.

Some of the aircraft's passengers are said to be visiting the Puerto Princesa Underground River, one of Palawan province's newest attraction after it is declared as one of New Seven Wonders of Nature early this year

Wil ik nog wel even aanvullen dit verhaal.

Het gaat om een moslim groep van 4 vrouwen en 3 mannen. Ze waren veel te laat en het vliegtuig had op hen moeten wachten.
Ze wilden op een rij zitten. DE vrouwen waren helemaal in het zwart, zelfs met handschoenen aan.
In die rij zat al een man en die zou moeten "verhuizen" omdat de vrouwen niet naast een man mogen zitten. Die weigerde dat.
Toen zeiden de moslim mannen iets van: dan moet het vliegtuig maar exploderen. De man meldde dat en zodoende ......

De moslims waren uitgebreid in TV Patroll en verklaarden omstandig dat volgens hun geloof dat niet mocht (die mann tussen de vrouwen).
En volgens de Filipijnse wet mag je geen opmerkingen maken (grap of dreiging of wat dan ook) over bommen in en op vliegvelden en in vliegtuigen (uiteraard).

Ik geloof dat dit een van de weinige dingen is die ze wel serieus nemen in de PH (die regel over spreken / grappen over bommen).

PAL opens Hong Kong-Kalibo route

MANILA, Philippines—Tourists who visit Hong Kong will soon just be a short plane ride away to the world-famous, fine sand beaches of Boracay as Philippine Airlines (PAL) opens a direct Hong Kong-Kalibo flight starting April 27.

The twice weekly service — aimed at further boosting market demand for Boracay — will utilize PAL's bi-class Airbus A320 aircraft that seats 12 in Business class and 144 in Economy.

PAL flight PR289 leaves Hong Kong every Tuesday and Friday at 1:20 p.m., arriving in Kalibo at3:50 p.m.

The return flight, PR290, departs Kalibo at 4:50 p.m., arriving in Hong Kong at 7:20 p.m.

Special introductory fare for round-trip, economy tickets is being offered at 1,350 Hong Kong dollars.

Only PAL offers Business class and full service on all its narrow-body fleet of 14 A320 jets.

Tiger Airways consolidates Seair Ownership

Singapore - Singapore Airlines subsidiary and low cost carrier Tiger Airways has announced plans to increase its stake in Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAir) Monday, April 16, as its foreign partner.

In a disclosure to the Singapore Stock Exchange, the carrier said it would amend the 2011 term sheet to hike Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd.'s stake in Seair from 32.5 percent to 40 percent, equivalent to US$7 million.

The disclosure said that the 2 parties have revised their term sheet, which was originally signed in February 2011.Tiger purchased a 32.5-percent stake in SEAir for $6 million. The additional 7.5-percent stake is worth $7 million, it said.

"The revised term sheet is to replace the first term sheet that was signed on February 24, 2011. The parties will now proceed to finalize the definitive sale and purchase agreement for the stake," the airline said.

SEAir is the 5th largest airline in the Philippines dominated by giants Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific, AirPhil Express, and Zest Air. Spirit of Manila and Air Asia Philippines are the bottom two.






SEAir operates a pair of Airbus A320's and 4 Dornier 328's operating between Manila and Boracay gateway, Caticlan, and other feeder points, as well as flights from Manila-Clark to Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore.It has rights to fly Manila to Cebu and Davao and an application to fly 3 Malaysian destinations — Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu from its hub in Clark. --with reports from Rappler

Toen zeiden de moslim mannen iets van: dan moet het vliegtuig maar exploderen. De man meldde dat en zodoende ......

...volgens hun geloof dat niet mocht (die mann tussen de vrouwen).

Ik hoop dan ook dat ze ze (mannen en vrouwen gescheiden) voor minstens 10 jaar in de gevangenis steken.

'Schiphol beste luchthaven in Europa'

RIJSWIJK -  Passagiers hebben Schiphol uitgeroepen tot de beste luchthaven in Europa. Dat gebeurde in een onderzoek van het Britse adviesbureau Skytrax, waarbij ruim 12 miljoen passagiers uit meer dan 100 landen werden ondervraagd over de kwaliteit van 388 luchthavens. Het was de eerste keer dat Schiphol de eerste plaats haalde in het onderzoek, dat sinds 1999 plaatsvindt.

5 foreign airlines to move to NAIA-3

MANILA, Philippines - Five more foreign airlines will transfer their operations from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (NAIA-1) to NAIA-3 in the first quarter of next year.

This move by Cathay Pacific, Delta Air, Emirates, Etihad and Singapore Airlines would mean at least two million passengers per year would no longer go through NAIA-1.

Japan's All Nippon Airlines has been operating at NAIA-3 since last year.

The decision by airport authorities to allow five foreign airlines to relocate to NAIA-3 was arrived at following complaints from the Airline Operators Council about the congestion experienced by arriving and departing airplanes.

Due to high volume of air traffic, it was found out that air traffic controllers had to process about 56 landings and takeoffs per hour. The ideal volume is about 40 aircrafts per hour.

NAIA-1 was built in 1982 and designed to accommodate 4.5 million passengers a year. However, authorities found out that the terminal had exceeded its capacity — it served 7.8 million passengers last year, according to airport sources.

The five foreign airlines will join local carriers Cebu Pacific and Airphil Express at NAIA-3.

Cathay offloads 'unruly' consul

A Hong Kong-bound Cathay Pacific flight turned back shortly after takeoff yesterday from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and was delayed by half an hour to offload what airline crew said was an "unruly" honorary Filipino consul.

Businessman Francis Chua was offloaded because he refused to fasten his seatbelt, Cathay Pacific said.

The airline said Chua, an honorary consul of Peru, introduced himself as a special Philippine envoy to China for trade and investment. Such appointments, given by the Arroyo administration, were scrapped by President Aquino when he assumed power.

Cathay Pacific cabin crew said Chua, also known as Ang Biao, was asked to fasten his seatbelt as the aircraft taxied for takeoff at noon.

When he refused, the crew alerted the pilot, Captain Brian Hall, and flight officer Warren Hayman, who decided to turn the plane around.
