ZestAir starts Manila to Jinjiang route

JINJIANG, China — Aggressively expanding airline Zest Airways (ZestAir) inaugurated its Manila to Jinjiang flight this week, its first international flight operating out of Manila.

Alfredo Yao, president and chief executive officer of ZestAir, said they were excited about the prospects of their new offering, a safe, fast and convenient access to Manila for Chinese tourists in the Southeast region of China as well as for Chinese-Filipinos whose roots are from Fujian province.

Yao said they would initially offer the route three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) with the two and a half hour flight leaving NAIA Terminal III at 9:10 a.m. and arriving at the Quanzhou (Jinjiang) International Airport at 11:30 a.m., and the return flight to Manila leaving Quanzhou at 2 p.m. and arriving at the NAIA Terminal III at 4:30 p.m.

Yao said that the flight frequency of the Manila-Jinjiang route will "depend on market demand."

For its initial run, ZestAir would utilize their Airbus 320s with 180-seat configuration.

Before Jinjiang, ZestAir had already operated five international flights since 2010, from the Kalibo and Cebu international airports to Incheon and Pusan in South Korea; and Shanghai and Beijing in China; and Taiwan.

"The fruits of hard work to operate ZestAir's first international flight direct out of Manila is now finally ready for harvest," Yao noted.

Yao led the delegation of Filipino and Chinese-Filipino businessmen, and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials during the press launch at Marco Polo Hotel in Jinjiang.

"The international route of Manila-Quanzhou opened by Philippine Zest Airlines marks the beginning of the operation of foreign airplanes in Jinjiang Airport and let it become a real international airport," Chen Rongzhou, vice mayor of Quanzhou said.

Chen noted that Quanzhou is known as the "famous hometown" to many overseas Chinese and Chinese-Filipino taipans in the Philippines.

ZestAir presently flies to over 19 domestic destinations including Boracay (Kalibo), Bacolod, Busuanga, Calbayog, Cagayan de Oro, Catarman, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Manila, Masbate, Marinduque, Puerto Princesa, San Jose (Mindoro), Tablas, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, and Virac.

According to Yao, ZestAir is also planning to open more international flights this year to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Singapore; add more flights from Manila to Shanghai (China) and Incheon (South Korea); and resume the Manila-Hong Kong flight.

The airline currently has a fleet of 14 aircraft, nine of which are A320s, with 162 to 180 seat configurations, one A319 with a 144-seat configuration, and four MA 60s with 56-seat configuration.

Yao said given their aggressive expansion plans, they are keen to acquire two more A320s this year.

Zest Air launches direct flight to ME

AFTER launching its first direct flights to Jinjiang and Quanzhou recently, Zest Air will have yet another first -- a direct flight to the Middle East.

Ambassador Alfredo Yao, Zest Air's president and  chief executive officer, said that their direct flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will mark a history in Philippine aviation since no airline has any direct flight to the Middle East right now.  

Yao said the launching of the said direct flights is the result of long and careful planning and hard work by Zest Air authorities headed by Yao himself.

According to him, the Jinjiang flight launched was the first direct international flight from Manila, even if the said airline has started operating five international flights as early as 2010. It was learned that the flights to Incheon and Pusan          (Korea), Shanghai and Beijing (China) and Taipei, Taiwan do not come from Manila but  either from the Kalibo or Cebu International Airports.

With this recent development, Amb. Yao said there are more direct international flights which are scheduled to be launched this year, including those going to  Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Shanghai, China and Incheon, Korea.

Plan afoot to make NAIA strictly for large aircraft

President Aquino is looking at transforming the country's premier airport into something that would be strictly for large aircraft by transferring the general aviation operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for light aircraft to the Sangley naval base in Cavite.

Aquino said the transfer, which he expects to be in place within a month, would help reduce congestion on the runways of the country's main international airport.

"At present, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) and the Department of National Defense are discussing plans to transfer the general aviation from NAIA to Sangley," the President said.

"To reduce congestion in NAIA, we will move the general aviation to Sangley within a month or so. They have given a timetable of more or less a month," he said.

DoTC earlier had made an announcement embarking on plans to reduce the load on the runways and taxiways by transferring general aviation to the air bases either in Sangley or Lipa, Batangas.

The takeoff and landing times of flying schools have already been restricted and asked to relocate to other sites to decongest NAIA. Private flights, particularly propeller aircraft, will reportedly soon follow.

However, Aquino doesn't appear keen on proposals to move the entire NAIA operations to Sangley, citing the huge cost the government would incur in doing so.

"If we will expand Sangley, there will be bigger expenses. We need hundreds of reclamation to have something as big as NAIA so it might not be feasible at present," he said.

Dikke vliegers in gevaar

Vliegtuigpassagiers met overgewicht zullen dwars door hun stoelriem schieten bij een crash, door verouderde veiligheidsnormen, waarschuwen wetenschappers. De huidige vliegtuigstoelen zijn gebouwd voor het gemiddelde gewicht van 77 kilo en dit zijn de meeste vliegers al lang niet meer.

Mogelijk extra toeslag om bij elkaar te zitten in vliegtuig

Families, gezinnen of andere groepjes reizigers die met het vliegtuig op reis gaan en daarbij graag naast elkaar willen zitten, zullen daar in de toekomst misschien extra voor moeten betalen. In de Verenigde Staten is dat namelijk sinds de vorige zomer op veel binnenlandse vluchten al ingevoerd. Wie bij het raam wil zitten of aan het gangpad, moet daar meer voor betalen.

Airbus in VS met XL-zitjes voor dikkerds leverbaar

De Europese vliegtuigbouwer Airbus heeft Amerikaanse luchtvaartbedrijven voorgesteld haar A320-passagiersvliegtuigen uit te kunnen rusten met extra-large zitplaatsen, om daarmee obese en extreem dikke passagiers ter wille te zijn.

AMSTERDAM -  De passagiers van KLM gaan fors meebetalen aan het herstel van de luchtvaartmaatschappij.

Daarmee opent Het Parool vrijdag. KLM gaat de reizigers, veel meer dan nu, extra diensten aanbieden tegen betaling.

Extra's.....de extra beenruimte waar je meer voor moest betalen is al een tijdje aan de gang bij KLM.

Luxe maaltijden is dan weer iets nieuws, maar uit het artikel en reactie's is niks uit te maken dat het ook over internationale vluchten gaat.

Maar niettemin is het nog altijd aan je zelf wat je meer wilt en ook betalen.

KLM zal nog zen beste beentje moeten voorzetten om dit waar te maken.
