Wat ook meespeelt is dat DHL zijn hub verhuisd heeft van Zaventem naar Leipzig.

Vroeger had DHL ook zijn eigen voorraad en teams om vliegtuigen te deicen, deze teams werden indien nodig ook ingezet om andere maatschappijen uit de nood te helpen.  Nu zijn er nog maar een handvol vluchten vanuit Brussel en zijn de teams en ook voorraad afgebouwd.

Cebupacific cancels 14 int'l and domestic flights due to bad weather

MANILA,  Bad weather hampered 14 local and international flights of low cost carrier Cebu Pacific, including its trip to South Korea.

"Please take note that we will have several delayed flights today due to two grounded aircraft in South Korea because of bad weather and airport restrictions," Cebupacific said in an advisory this morning.

It said the affected flights and new times of departure are the following:

5J785 Manila-Butuan 0805H — 5J786 Butuan-Manila 1005H.

5J637 Manila-Puerto Princesa 0855H — 5J638 Puerto Princesa-Manila 1045H.

SCHIPHOL - Op Europese luchthavens staan nog tienduizenden koffers te wachten op hereniging met hun eigenaar. De duizenden koffers die voor Kerst nog op Schiphol stonden en bagage die in de dagen erna op Schiphol is aangekomen, zijn volgens luchtvaartmaatschappij KLM overwegend geretourneerd aan de eigenaar. "Het overgrote deel is terug", zei operationeel directeur Ype de Haan van KLM woensdag (29 december).


Hij zei het heel vervelend te vinden dat sommige passagiers hun koffer nog niet terug hebben. "Op luchthavens in Londen, Parijs en Frankfurt staan nog tienduizenden koffers en er is nog niet overal volledig overzicht." Passagiers die hun spullen nu nog missen, moeten een formulier invullen om de bagage terug te krijgen, Met een omschrijving van de koffer.

Op Schiphol staan volgens De Haan nog zo'n zevenhonderd 'anonieme' koffers, koffers zonder label of code. Samen met de bevoegde autoriteiten worden die opengemaakt, maar als in de koffer ook geen gegevens te vinden zijn wordt het lastig. "Ik zou mensen willen oproepen altijd hun gegevens in ieder geval in de koffer te doen." De koffers zijn niet noodzakelijkerwijs van KLM-passagiers. "Ook van andere maatschappijen net zoals koffers van onze passagiers nog in het buitenland kunnen staan."

Door de sneeuw zijn duizenden passagiers zonder hun bagage vertrokken of aangekomen. "Soms kunnen de koffers door de weersomstandigheden niet beladen worden", legde De Haan uit. "Die komen dan met een andere vlucht." Ook komt het voor dat de deuren van de laadruimte dichtgevroren zitten. "Bovendien is alles vertraagd waardoor passagiers soms zelf hun doorgaande vlucht nog net halen maar hun koffer niet."

Cathay makes pay offer to pilots–report

HONG KONG–Cathay Pacific has offered its pilots pay rises of up to 12 percent after they threatened not to work beyond their scheduled shifts over Christmas, a report said Sunday.

The Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association's 1,800 members will vote within six weeks on the deal, which falls short of the rises of more than 30 percent over four years demanded by the union, the Sunday Morning Post said.

300 passengers of Continental Airlines stranded at NAIA 1

At least 300 Guam-bound passengers have been stranded in Manila for nearly two days due to a defective aircraft of Continental Airlines, QTV's Balitanghali reported Wednesday.

The passengers of Continental Airlines Flight 934 were supposed to leave the country on January 3 at 11 p.m., but were not allowed to board the aircraft due to a technical problem.

Open skies set for Davao, Cebu, Zamboanga, Laoag

THE government will this week declare an open-skies policy in Davao, Cebu, Zamboanga and Laoag, exposing those secondary destinations to more competition from foreign airlines, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa said Tuesday.

But the local airlines will still have the exclusive right to serve domestic routes as the executive order coming from President Benigno Aquino III will prohibit cabotage, an airline's right to carry passengers between two domestic points.

A Transport Canada report said United Flight 940 was diverted to Toronto late Monday and landed safely at Pearson International Airport. In a twist reminiscent of the plot of the 1964 Glenn Ford movie 'Fate Is the Hunter', the coffee spill caused distress signals to go out, including code 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference.
